Chapman’s Ice Cream will be playing a pivotal role in Canada’s COVID-19 vaccination plan.
Last week, Prime Minister Trudeau announced Health Canada’s approval of the Pfizer Vaccine, which was acquired at nearly 250,000 doses. Canada is officially the second country in the world to greenlight the Pfizer vaccine. Canada is on track to receive four million doses of the Pfizer vaccine by March and 20 million total in 2021.
But these vaccines require ice cold temperatures to stay at their optimal effectiveness. Some of the shots must be stored at temperatures potentially as cold as minus 80 degrees Celsius, which is pretty much the same as the cost of transporting ice cream and steaks to supermarkets and eventually to people’s doorsteps. A shortage of freezers and freezer trucks are predicted to be a logistical nightmare.
Chapman Ice Cream has purchased several low temperature freezers in order to store COVID-19 vaccines on behalf of Grey Bruce County at their warehouse in Barrie.
